One of the AIA's main tenants which YAF has embraced is increasing the awareness of the importance of the architect's in the community. We regularly participate in festivals, conferences and events which allow our membership to take this message to the general public.
We strive to directly improve our community through partnerships with other organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Raleigh Greenway, the AIA Committee on the Environment, Wake Tech, and more. Joining these organizations to complete service projects creates opportunities for interns and young architects to gain the type of design input and leadership experience they might not be getting at work. While our members are gaining great experiences they are also demonstrating the leadership potential of our profession.
We believe that creating and working with the community improves our cities, as we increase the public’s awareness of what architects do.
So put your architecture and design skills to work and help build, educate and lead by gettting involved in one of our outreach programs:
This year's build is set! Sign up and and help us construct a community gathering space with reuse materials for a deserving neighborhood in Wake Forest, NC.
YAF will make an impact on a Neighborhood in Wake Forest. The design was created by YAF members who won the 2014 RESPACE Design Competition. The covered gathering space was based on the concept of the Southern front porch.
We are currently developing a flexible workshop about architecture and design with curriculum for kids & teens as well as a team building exercises for college and adult students. Students start with small scale PVC pieces and learn to design a basic structure, then ScaleUP to bigger PVC architecture! Email us to find out more, volunteer to help run a workshop, or request we come to you with the workshop.
Each year we host the Memory Map, Residential Tour Info Booth, and Architecture Walking Tours during designSPARK. Email us to find out how to volunteer.
